Several themes are obvious for the book Twisted such as;
Anger
Self development
Maturity
And Choices
Anger is shown several times through out the book for example: When Bethany is making-out with Parker in the back seat of Chip's car, Tyler was furious that she had done that and wouldn't stop when he attempted to stop her. Another example of Anger is when Parker and his friends had bullied Yoda and Tyler had the thought "Breathe. Just keep breathing. And kill the first thing you get your hands on (69)." he was so angry that his best friend was getting hurt by these delinquents and obviously used his anger to get them way from him (by pushing Parker up against the locker).
Self Development is also shown through out. For example when Tyler had the barrel of his father's gun in his mouth and he looked in the mirror and realized the size of the mirror was meant for his father and not him, he realized he could become more than the angry and dark person his father was, Another example of Self Development is when Tyler walked away from Bethany because he knew he had to get over her.
Maturity is shown when Bethany tries to have sex with Tyler and although he really wants to do it he decides not too. Tyler proves also how mature he is by driving Bethany, Chip, and Parker home from the party despite how he feels toward Parker and Chip.
Choices is a main theme through out the book. The choice to sleep with Bethany and do something morally wrong. The choice Tyler had to run away from his problems instead of staying and solving them. The choice Tyler had to kill himself with his father's gun. And the ultimate choice Tyler had of becoming the Lord of Darkness or being reincarnated, although it was just a game it also determined if Tyler was going to make the right choice in his life; was he going to become his father? A suicidal crazed man whose family suffered because of it? Or was he going to choose to become someone better because he learned how to get through the tough times and how to over come road blocks in his way? Overall Tyler had chose the right choice for all of these; Tyler refused to sleep with Bethany because it was wrong. Tyler also didn't run away because he had realized he could fix most of his problems by standing up and saying something (after he had put the gun in his mouth), Tyler had made the choice not to kill himself because as he looked into the mirror he knew he was as he had said bigger than his father, and finally Tyler had made the correct choice, by being reincarnated he knew if he had chosen to be the Lord of Darkness he would just go back to the dark place that had caused him 90% of his problems.
